If you love the beautiful hues of summer flowers, but are not aware of which flowers to grow in your yard, Russos Landscaping has come up with a list just for you.  Just because its summer, doesn’t mean gorgeous flowers can’t grow!

·        Perennial Hibiscus (H. moscheutos): Also known as rose-mallow and swamp hibiscus, this flower was produced from wildflowers native to the East and South. Big red, pink, or white flowers can be as far as a foot across on stems that range from 2 to 8 feet high, depending on the selection. These flowers bloom from late spring until frost. They require full sun and regular to abundant water.

·        Purple Wave Petunia: Was originally named an All-America Selection winner, where growers thought of petunias as upright plants. The purple wave petunias are considered more like vines, great for growing in hanging pots, alongside retaining walls or as a ground cover. They require full sun and need regular water.

·        Profusion Zinnias (Z.Hybrida): Zinnas are perfect if you want to cut armloads of flowers for bouquets and still have plenty of bright bands of color along your lawn or garden.  All zinnias flourish in hot weather, but Profusion zinnias bloom all the way into fall, whatever the weather. Profusion White, Orange and Cherry, which have daisy-like flowers, each have acquired numerous garden awards. They require full sun, and regular watering.

·        Globe Amaranth (Gomphrena globoso): These clover-like flower heads are around for your enjoyment all year round. The papery flowers last a long amount of time in the garden and fresh bouquets, and are easy to dry for use in wintertime arrangement. These flowers come in a variety of colors including white, red, pink, lilac and purple. Requires full sun to partial shade and moderate water.

·        Marigolds (Tagetes): Marigolds are lively yellow or orange flowers that can really light up a garden. The plant’s unique odor also keeps pests away. Marigolds are great as cut flowers too and range from frilly densely packed flowers to marigolds that look more like daisies with just a row or two of petals around a dark center. These flowers require full sun and regular water.
