Ivy is one of the most bothersome weeds for your yard. It spreads quickly, and can be difficult to get rid of. As winter draws near, plant life begins to stop growing. This is your chance to eradicate as much of the ivy as possible before it grows back.

Ivy can snake it’s way across lawns, over fences, and under concrete. Ivy can “choke out” other plants by covering and taking the sunlight and nutrients away from them. In suburban communities, ivy can spread across  backyards to everyone on the street. Regular English Ivy, while not poisonous, can cause skin irritation, so cover up before dealing with the vines. Ivy has been known to help wild/forest fires spread, with the flames traveling up the vines. Do not place ivy in a compost bin after removal, as it can regrow from there. Mulching ivy can assist in stopping new sprouts after taking out the initial growths. Chipmunks, rabbits and other animals may use ivy as shelter, so be careful when removing plants. Large amounts of ivy in trees may be used by birds for nests.
